032. Are You Icing Injuries Too Much? How Excessive Icing Can Impede Healing

Are you over-icing your injuries? This could be an eye-opening episode for anyone who has learned to religiously ice their injuries. Believe it or not, utilizing ice for injuries is done more excessively in the USA than anywhere else in the world. In the USA, we tend to slap ice on every injury and at all stages of the healing process. This is not to say that ice is useless, but often it is overdone. The purpose of ice is to reduce local circulation, cellular communication, and overall metabolism. Ice is very helpful for reducing pain, but using ice after every outing can be detrimental to the healing process. Over-icing an injury is like placing a band-aid over a complex issue that is negatively affecting recovery and performance. In this episode, Andrew shares his experience with icing and the approaches that he takes with athletes to return them back to optimal levels of performance. Listen in on this episode for some great information and insight so that you may learn some different approaches to recovery after injury. Enjoy this episode! Aloha!
