06 Sep 138. Guysen Terai On Strength & Conditioning, Improving As A Coach, And Finding Your Purpose
Let’s welcome Guysen Terai to the HNL Movement Podcast! Guysen recently moved back to Hawaii after being a strength & conditioning coach at Oregon. This episode discusses many topics related to strength & conditioning, coaching strategies, navigating through your career, and finding your purpose to make a positive impact on those around you.
Guysen talks about growing up in Hilo and playing sports year-round from a young age. He has learned valuable lessons through sports that has helped him as a coach to this day. Like many of us, competitive sports come to an end, and we transition to search for the career we would like to pursue. Naturally, being active all his life, he fell into Kinesiology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UH). As a requirement for a class to gain observational hours, he walked into the athletic facility at UH and asked Head Strength & Conditioning Coach Tommy Heffernan if he would be able to volunteer. That began his unique road in pursuit of becoming a strength & conditioning coach. Guysen shares his journey of sacrifices and perseverance that led him to becoming an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at the University of Oregon.
This episode is more than just valuable strength & conditioning insights. Listen in to gain inspiration of how to pursue your passion and find your purpose to make a positive impact on others. It was a pleasure to have Guysen share all his experiences and the ways it allowed him to elevate athlete’s performance. For those of you that are at a crossroad in life or your career, keep taking the necessary steps to move forward and work towards your goals.
