011. The Relationship Between Pain, Injury, and Motor Control | How Does It Affect Performance?

Let’s talk about the relationship of pain, injury, and motor control. This information will help you understand the process to reduce pain, lower injury risk, start to move better, and ultimately elevate your performance. I will breakdown the different types of pain and what happens with orthopedic and musculoskeletal injuries. I also breakdown what motor control is and how crucial it is to address how we move. The take home message of this episode is that pain is a signal that indicates something needs to be checked and addressed. Most of the time, the area of pain is not the actual cause of pain. I relate musculoskeletal pain like the check engine light in your car, it’s a signal that tells you something is not functioning normally. Also note that when pain does subside, it doesn’t automatically mean that your movement will be restored. This is why it is extremely important to address how we are moving to take care of our body. I also share a few basic concepts at the end that help you tackle pain, injury, and motor control. Stay healthy everyone and join me again next week!
